Step One
You will need to have an updated computer and computer software to produce your montage. Many computers today have good software already installed on the hard drive. Video-editing software can compile many forms of media, such as photos, video clips, text, illustrations, and audio. Check your computer to see if you already own the software. For a PC, it is called Windows Movie Maker or for a Mac it is called iMovie.
Step Two
Build your storyboard. Study the pictures and videos you have access to. Compile the media to tell a story of that person. For example, if the montage is of a bride and groom you will want to tell the story of what life was like before they met, how they met, their blossoming relationship, and finally their current couple pictures.
When you have your concept of how you want to tell the story then you will be able to adequately choose the correct music and illustrations.
Step Three
Monitor how long you give each video clip and photo. Video clips usually are given about four to eight minutes while pictures usually get three to four seconds.
Step Four
Learn your software well. Know how to use it and all the extras. Keep in mind that even though many of the extras, such as the transitions with screen wipes and flips are fun, you can overdo them. Keep your transitions to a minimum.
Step Five
Burn your montage onto DVD. If you don’t possess a burner on your laptop or desktop, then you should purchase one. Many software programs allow you to burn an image on top of the DVD. People will enjoy having a special DVD with their loved one’s picture and text on it.
